记得在我小的时候，有一年夏天晚上，天气异常闷热，吃好晚饭后，村里的人们，都三三两两的拿着蒲扇，带着席子，到村口前面有一口古井的地方乘凉，那个地方在以前每个夏天的晚上，基本都是村里唯一乘凉的地方，有的时候人们说着闲话聊到半夜三更，困了就在席子上躺着打会盹，天亮各自回家。故事就是在井口那听一位老太太说起的，故事发生上世纪四十年代，那个时候她还小，家里很穷，父亲给地主家做短工，母亲在家带孩子，上面还有爷爷奶奶，一大家子人就住在两间草房子里，有一年她的母亲怀孕了，也是夏天，天气热的睡不着觉，到了晚上，她奶奶就带着她，等到夜深人静的时候到房子外面无人的地方睡会儿，她的母亲也想到外面睡，奶奶总说，怀孕的人不能再月亮下面睡觉，容易招到一些不干净的东西，可有一天，天气实在太热了，她的爷爷父亲都到村外面树林里凉快去了，她母亲大概是在草房里热的实在受不了，于是半夜跑了出来和她的奶奶睡在了一起，她的奶奶说你在外面凉快一会回屋子睡吧！千万别再外面睡。她的母亲答应了，可过了一会儿，她母亲也由于长时间的没有休息好，竟然睡著了，睡着睡着在迷迷糊糊之间竟然听到有什么东西在身后说话，她的母亲就勉强睁眼扭过头向发出声音的地方看了看，这一看不打紧，竟然看到了一个矮乎乎，圆溜溜，有鼻子有眼，像个肉瓜一样的东西，连滚带爬的奔她而来，她的母亲吓的大叫了一声，可那个东西爬到她母亲身上就不见了，她奶奶听到声音也醒了过来，问怎么回事，她的母亲没敢说，之后就回屋子了，可自那以后她母亲就有了不好的预兆，天天提心吊胆的。
时间不久的一天夜里，她的母亲临产了，于是她的奶奶就去邻村找来了接生婆，接生婆来到之后把房子里的地面扫干净，在上面撒了些干石灰，叫她的母亲躺在上面，她的奶奶在外面帮着烧了些开水，把接生婆带来的剪刀在火上面烧了烧，擦了擦。提前工作准备好了，她的奶奶就陪着接生婆在屋子里说着闲话，男人在外面等着。大概夜里两三点，她的母亲要生了，当接生婆看到生下来的东西的时候倒吸了口凉气，连脐带都没有剪就和她的奶奶跑了出来，他的父亲在外面忙问怎么回事，接生婆哆哆嗦嗦上气不接下气的说到：生下来一个血糊糊，有头有身子，可下面长满了几十条像蛇一样的尾巴的东西，他的父亲一听，大吃一惊，忙的跑到屋子里面去看，竟然发现那个东西已经爬到了他媳妇的怀里吃奶了，孕妇已经吓死了过去。她父亲跑出来拿了把铁线就奔屋子里去，可被她的奶奶拦住了，问他想干什么。他说要到房子里面铲死它，她奶奶说万一铲着孕妇怎么办，她的奶奶想了想，于是到屋子门口对着那个东西像哄小孩子一样说到：你出来有人跟你玩。那个东西咬着**不动，她的奶奶又说：快出来给你洗洗澡，那个东西抬抬头看了看还是不动。
这时接生婆偷偷的扒在她奶奶的耳朵跟前说了什么，于是她的奶奶就到另一间屋子里拿来了一件新的小孩衣服，接生婆又对她父亲说叫他拿着铁锨站在房门外面，她的奶奶站在门口手里拿着衣服喊到：快出来呀，你看给你做了花衣服喽，这时那个东西看到衣服竟然起来了，自己咬断了脐带就奔门口爬来，她的奶奶就拿着衣服慢慢往后退，当那个东西爬到门口的时候，她的父亲拿起铁锨就铲了下去，从中间铲成两半，这时候就听有头的半截咿咿呀呀就像小孩子哭，而下半截好像几十条蛇缠在一起纠缠一样，翻滚着，挣扎着。这时她的奶奶和接生婆就跑到屋子里去查看孕妇，而他的父亲想用铁锨把这个怪胎弄到外面去丢了，接生婆说不能丢，防止它再祸害人，叫她父亲找来铡刀（以前喂牲口用来铡草料的），将那个尾巴一点点铡碎，连着有头的那半截弄到村口土地庙前用桃木火给烧成了灰。
