祥云岛水库，位于
古代民间鬼故事之狐仙
河北省乐亭县南端十公里处，濒临渤海湾，一九八零年之前，此处尚未开发，旅游业更是无从谈起。 老唐便是那个时候祥云岛水库的守护者。
说是守护，其实也没多大事儿，主要就是防止有人来破坏水库，防止有人来盗伐周边的树木。
老唐的住所，便是水库边上的一间配电室。因为平时独处，倍感寂寞，老唐很快爱上了垂钓。
老唐所钓之鱼种类繁多，除了常见的鲤鱼、鲫鱼和草鱼外，还有黑鱼、元鱼或面条鱼等。所以，他那简易的厨房里每天都能飘溢出美味的鱼香。
对于吃不过来的鱼，老唐就把他们养在厨房的一口大缸里。
一个盛夏的晚上，老唐刚要睡觉，忽听到厨房里传来了哗啦哗啦的水声，他不知道发生了什么，一手拿个手电，一手抄起一根木棍就过去了，他要看个究竟，他将手电筒往水缸里那么一照，嗬！是一只白狐！“好啊，原来是你啊，我说的嘛，这段时间水缸里的鱼怎么会少了呢，敢情是你偷吃了，闻着香味来的吧？”
那白狐在水里不停地扑腾，试图爬上来，但怎么努力也爬不上来，完全成了落汤狐，老唐就打算把它逮住，然后杀了炖肉吃。正欲动手时，他发现那只白狐满眼惊恐，甚至还流下眼泪。老唐心软了，佛心大发，慈悲骤来，便把它抱出，放了。
之后很长时间，那白狐就没再来，他的鱼也没再少过。老唐感慨：看来这狐狸也通人性、也讲良心啊。
这一天，老唐在水库边钓鱼，远远地看到了那只白狐，只是这一次，那白狐骑着一匹绿马，吹着竹笛声。而那绿马一边点着头，一边缓缓地向他驶来，等到了跟前，白狐跳下马背，对着老唐又是磕头，又是作揖，还能开口说话：“谢谢大爷，谢谢大爷救命之恩，谢谢大爷好生之德”，刚说完，那白狐忽地变成了一朵白云，飘走了。而那绿马，则疾奔出去，没奔出多远，便扑地身亡，吐出一滩绿血，那绿血弥漫开来，变成了湖水，而马的躯干，却慢慢地变大，变大，化成了一个绿岛……
老唐一下子吓醒了，原来是个梦！老唐觉得这也太奇怪了，难道祥云岛是绿马变的？难道祥云岛水库里的水是绿马的血？难道祥云就是指那只白狐吗？老唐想不出所以然。
