这个故事有一半是亲身经历的，一半是听说的。
水鬼，几乎是小时候大人吓唬小孩不玩水最常说的一个词。所以，我至今还是个旱鸭子。
我们那一片地方都是洞庭湖围湖造田出来的，所以水面非常大，这片地方都是小时候的乐园。可惜后来上大学回去的时候，发现那一片已经全部成为了农田。
小时候，我们队的房子都是按照一条线排列的，旁边连着大堤，在外面就是资江河。后面是一片农田，农田再往北就是洞庭湖，前面是一块特别大的家庭圈养湖。一到夏天，圈养湖旁边的芦苇荡，湖中间的荷叶、荷花和莲蓬都是我们小孩非常向往的。

一天中午吃完饭，我和哥哥正在睡午觉，突然听见外面传来一阵喧闹声。我们跑到外面一看，之间邻居家的堂屋外面围了很多人，队里所有的劳动力都围在陈家池塘旁边，另据宋叔叔在荷塘里打捞着什么，妇女们则围在外面在七嘴八舌着。我起初以为是队里开会，也就不以为然。后来我听见邻居王阿姨开始在那嚎啕大哭，我和哥哥赶紧跑过去准备看热闹。
到了邻居家，前面荷塘的人群开始往这边移动，王阿姨跟在人群的外面一把鼻涕一把泪，我妈在旁边搀扶着各种安慰。陈叔叔拿了一口锅放在外面，当时我还不知道是要做什么用。人群终于到了堂屋前面，只见宋叔叔抱着宋峰（我的玩伴，年龄跟我差不多，但是比我调皮很多，水性特别好。）边走边呼唤，峰子，你醒醒啊。峰子的弟弟宋雷在旁边傻傻的看着，一句话也不说。
我仔细的看了一眼峰子，他完全不同于之前的样子，整个脸上都是一种可怕的苍白和浮肿。大家把他平放在锅上面，宋叔叔边哭着边去做人工呼吸还有按胸等。整个场面一片混乱。宋雷瘫坐在人群旁边，嘴里一直地念叨着什么，没人管他。
我拨开人群，小步跑到宋雷旁边蹲下来，“雷子，峰子发生什么事情了。怎么脸肿的那么大，脸色还那么白？”
“鬼！是鬼！我和峰子准备去摘莲蓬，峰子扑通到水里面，摘了一堆莲蓬了。我在岸边玩泥巴，过了一会，荷塘里面没有动静了。我试着叫了一声，荷塘里面没有声音，只见很多荷叶成片倒下，只能看见一团黑影，就是看不见峰子。我当时吓懵了。直到反应过来，我才开始大叫爸爸的名字。”
水鬼，肯定是水鬼。我心里想着。
峰子到底还是没有救活，运进棺材的时候，我看到他苍白脚踝上面有一个黑手印。
第二天，陈叔和宋叔叔把那个荷塘的水放干了，里面除了一些鱼和莲藕，什么都没有，后来那个鱼塘被填平了。峰子被火化，骨灰被扔到资江河里面去了。（老家习俗，非正常死亡的年轻人和小孩是不能入祖坟的。）
那一次之后，雷子变得越来越不合群，感觉也越来越傻，越来越内向。我上大学之后，过年回去也没见过他，听说是去打工去了，好几年没回来了。
